Carissa Sorensen
painter and mixed media artist
I am a mixed media artist, mother of two wildly creative kids, and lifelong horsewoman. I love to work in a variety of mediums including (but not limited to) collage, oil, acrylic, and watercolor. Whatever medium I choose, my art is always grounded in a deep love and reverence for nature and the healing power of creativity. I see art as a way to process and integrate the world around us, to express that which can't be confined to words, and to come home to ourselves. I’m also a certified creativity coach and Entheos Energywork Practitioner, which means my creative process is just as much about mind, body, and spirit as it is about color and texture.
NEW COLLECTION
Skybound
a series of mixed media collage paintings inspired by birds and the symbolic messages they carry for humankind. Each bird is a collage: created with hand painted paper, carefully cut out and layered. Then paint, pencil, and pen were used to bring out the detail and energy of each bird.
I am fascinated by wildlife. By the legends and lore surrounding the animal kingdom that crosses cultures and oceans. The way humankind has created meaning and gained wisdom from nature for centuries.
We are living in a time when confusion and division are being used against us. Skybound is an exploration of looking into nature for truth and balance when everything else feels so disorienting.
